At the beginning of The Fires of Heaven, Alvarian is Keeper under Elaida. She takes control of the meetings until Elaida asserts her authority, and she is unruffled when Elaida does so. She was the first that Elaida took into her confidence about overthrowing Siuan Sanche, and she is the Keeper because Elaida needed the support of the White Ajah. When Padan Fain encounters her, he gets the feeling that she knows exactly who he is.
At the beginning of A Crown of Swords, Alviarin comes to Elaida's rooms at the top of the White Tower to brief her. She witnesses a Foretelling, and after descending from her rooms she finds Mesaana waiting in her chambers. She tells Mesaana about the interview with Elaida, and Mesaana shows her how to weave a gateway.
At the beginning of Crossroads of Twilight, Alviarin has apparently left the White Tower, though nobody is quite sure where she might have gone.
At the beginning of Knife of Dreams, Alvarian is in the White Tower. She has been marked, invisibly, by Shaidar Haran, and tasked with breaking the Tower from within. She has been stripped of the Keeper's stole and has been assigned penance by Elaida.
