Dragonflight is the first of the Pern novels. It tells the story of Lessa, hidden in Ruatha Hold, the only survivor of her family after Fax's bloody conquest ten Turns earlier. Lessa manipulates events to bring about Fax's death in the intent of becoming Lady Holder. She is convinced, however, to become Weyrwoman instead.
Dragonflight was based on an earlier novella Weyr Search, incorporated as Part 1 of the novel.
