Karen Traviss is a British science fiction author. A former newspaper and television journalist, police public press officer, advertizing copywriter, and journalism lecturer, she is now a political public relations manager in addition to be a novelist. She now resides in Wiltshire, England.
Her major science fiction novels City of Pearl and its sequel Crossing the Line explore an expanionist humanity's encounter with genuinely alien aliens and the moral responsibilities owed to creatures not of one's own species. What makes the aliens alien in Karen Traviss's City of Pearl/Crossing the Line universe is that they think and react differently from humans because of their biological hard-wiring. The drama develops because that difference doesn't relieve humans or aliens from making hard choices with moral implications.
